SNOWBOARDING

WIMBORNE'S Harry Waite – the reigning British under-16 champion – won his first competition of the year.

The 16-year-old was competing in a round of the World Rookie Tour in Bulgaria.

His first place in class was achieved against a strong field of competitors up to 18 years of age.

Waite is the only English schoolboy to have been accepted by the Vuokatti-Ruka Sports Academy and receives top coaching from Finnish national team coaches.

The teenager, whose passion for snowboarding was developed at Snowtrax in Hurn, is a member of the Great Britain set-up.

George Waite – Harry’s younger brother – competed in an earlier round of the World Rookie Tour in Corvatsch, Switzerland.

The 14-year-old just missed a podium spot with a creditable fourth place against competitors up to a year older.
