WIMBORNE completed a Southern Counties South double over North Dorset with a 31-15 victory at Leigh Park on Saturday.

The hosts had to overcome an early setback when they lost Darren Deguara to a knee injury.

But having reorganised and weathered a fast start from a North Dorset side keen to avenge their 29-point defeat by the same opponents in September, Wimborne progressively imposed their superiority on proceedings.

Ashton Kerley completed a flowing cross-field move by touching down wide on the left to open the scoring.

That try was converted by Joe Bartlett, who repeated the feat after Steve King had crossed for Wimborne's second score.

Ryan Maidment released Ollie Hamer for a third home try, with Bartlett again adding the extras to send Wimborne into the break boasting a 21-3 lead.

Hamer delivered the bonus point fourth try early in the second half before North Dorset bore their attacking teeth.

The visitors' two tries, though, sandwiched a fifth for the hosts, Bartlett turning provider to feed replacement Will Wright to go over in the corner.

Their comprehensive victory kept Wimborne just three points behind league leaders Swanage & Wareham, ahead of this week's visit to Combe Down, a team they brushed aside 47-3 earlier in the campaign.
