EDDIE Howe says his Cherries side cannot afford to carry a Burnley-induced hangover into tonight's Vitality Stadium clash with Leicester City.

The Foxes shook off what has been an indifferent start to their Premier League title defence by dismantling Manchester City on Saturday.

That Jamie Vardy inspired victory for Claudio Ranieri's team came just hours after Cherries had fallen to a 3-2 defeat at Howe's former club, Burnley.

Howe told the Daily Echo: "You can’t dwell on a negative result – and there were many positives from the performance at Burnley.

"The key thing for me is that we put it behind us very quickly and then focus on Leicester, because you can’t have any hangover from that game going into this one."

Cherries' boss is aware of the threat Vardy will pose to his team's hopes of bouncing back from their weekend disappointment at the first time of asking.

The England striker's goal on Leicester's visit to Dorset last year set him off on an 11-game Premier League scoring streak. And Vardy emerged from a recent barren spell by hitting a hat-trick against Pep Guardiola's City three days ago.

"Last year his form was outstanding, he scored a number of goals," said Howe.

"And the way he scored his goals on Saturday, you saw the player full of confidence and very good in front of goal at key moments. We know his strengths.

"Naturally their goalscorers, their attacking players are the guys we have to keep quiet. But I wouldn’t say we focus on any one individual, it’s more about patterns of play and how they look to do things, rather than one individual."

Cherries could potentially climb as high as 7th in the table by beating a side they twice shared the spoils with last term.

Conversely, defeat might see them end the week perched three points above the drop zone.

"Every win is so important," continued Howe. "If we can get a couple of results together, like we craved last week, then it will do us the world of good.

"The league is so tight, right from below the top five or six, down to the bottom clubs, so consistency of results is what we’re looking for."

Harry Arter and Dan Gosling both received their fourth bookings of the season at Turf Moor.

If either of the combative midfield duo step out of line again before the turn of the year they will be banned for one game.

"It’s certainly something we’re aware of," said Howe

"You don’t want any player suspended for any length of time, and certainly not key players like those two – but it’s something we’ll have to deal with."

The manager reported no fresh injury concerns following Cherries' bruising encounter in Lancashire.

Junior Stanislas and long-term absentee Lewis Cook remain out of contention, while Howe is not expecting the hamstrung Andrew Surman to be available again before Christmas.
