CHERRIES will hope to avoid an upset when they travel to League One Millwall in the FA Cup third round next month.

Eddie Howe’s side, paired with the 2004 finalists in tonight’s hotly-anticipated draw, are due to journey to The Den on the weekend of January 6-9.

Cherries have not played Millwall since December 2014, a fixture in which Howe’s troops claimed a 2-0 win to move four points clear at the top of the Championship. The clash also saw Harry Arter score for the fifth successive league game.

The teams have met just once in the FA Cup, Millwall claiming a 2-1 second-round victory on their own turf in December 2007.

Neil Harris’s men secured their safe passage to the third round this season with a 5-2 victory over visitors Braintree Town, surviving an early scare to see off the National League strugglers.

The Lions had previously inched past Southend United in another home tie, defender Mahlon Romeo’s late strike proving enough for a 1-0 win.

Currently ninth in League One, Millwall lost 3-0 to Manchester United in the 2004 FA Cup final.
