THE midweek screening of Wimborne Town's very own video nasty failed to do the trick as Magpies succumbed to a 4-3 defeat at high-fliers Tiverton Town.

Wimborne have conceded 15 goals in their past four games with Tivvy taking advantage of some generous defending in the Southern South & West clash.

In the build up to the fixture, boss Matty Holmes had sat squad members down in front of a selection of recent goals conceded and despite seeing an improvement on Saturday, he admitted more was needed.

He told the Daily Echo: "We did some video analysis with the players after training on Tuesday and showed them a lot of goals which we had given away cheaply.

"We like to show players individually on the bus on the way to games but we just felt because we had let so many poor goals in recently and thrown points away, we would show them as a whole group.

"We are showing them what needs to be done and they understand it but this league is ruthless and we have a young backline.

"They are either going to sink or swim and they have got to start swimming. I want to stick with them and give them an opportunity.

"I thought we were better against Tiverton and the midfield was closer to the defence but we didn't react to the ball over the top very well.

"The worry is we are leaking scandalous goals and we have to address that pretty quickly."

Wimborne forged ahead just two minutes in, a neat move involving Dan Cann and Sam Lanahan resulting in Luke Holmes drilling firmly into the corner.

However, the visitors then failed to deal with a ball over the top and Levi Landricombe – one of the division's leading scorers – directed home the equaliser.

Dan Cann struck for Magpies eight minutes later but Landricombe responded with a couple of goals to complete a first-half treble and put Tivvy in front.

Back came Wimborne after the restart when substitute Jack Lovell's cross-shot was spilled and Toby Holmes tucked away the loose ball.

But minutes later Tom Bath restored Tiverton's one-goal advantage and the hosts held on until the final whistle.

Boss Holmes added: "We're really disappointed. The boys put in a huge effort and I couldn't ask any more from them in terms of commitment and desire."

Magpies: Benfield, Walker, Maybury, Cocklin, Davidson, Kellaway, Stokoe, L Holmes, T Holmes, Cann, Lanahan (Lovell, 61). Unused subs: Griggs, Prior, Bayston.
