TOM Killick hailed as “a big boost” Marvin Brooks’s dramatic late goal as Poole Town returned to winning ways in National South at Hungerford Town.

The contest seemed destined to end in a 0-0 draw before youngster Sam Surridge's inch-perfect free-kick in second-half stoppage-time picked out Brooks, who nodded expertly into the far corner.

Victory was the perfect response to a lacklustre home defeat to Oxford City the previous weekend and Dolphins boss Killick was delighted to take three points, particularly given he would have been satisfied with a draw.

He told the Daily Echo: "I can't remember a game where there has been more than one goal between the teams and this game never looked likely to be an exception to that.

"If we had come away with a 0-0 draw I think we would have been relatively pleased so to win it in dramatic fashion was a big boost.

"I'm pleased for Marvin. It's his first goal since he came back from a long absence. He's still getting back to full match fitness and the goal was good for him.

"Sam is really showing his quality. Against two powerful and experienced centre-halves in a difficult game where there was very little football being played by either side, he showed he could look after himself and did a really good job for us."

Killick added: "I don't think Hungerford will drop many points at home this season.

"There was disappointment at how we played against Oxford but after this result we will, hopefully, keep a positive mood with us all week."

Dolphins: Hutchings, Lindsay, Spetch, Walker, Whisken, Baggie (Wort, 69), Burbidge, Devlin, Surridge, Brooks, Case (Bailey, 60). Unused subs: Balmer, Richardson, Rees.

Hamworthy United produced the result of the weekend in the Sydenhams Wessex Premier.

Steve Smith's goal was enough to earn the Dorset side a 1-0 win at table-topping Moneyfields, two days after the resignation of Hammers boss Carl Poore.

Brockenhurst maintained their fine start to the campaign by recording a 2-1 win over Whitchurch. Ryan Long and Matty Vokes scored for the Badgers, who moved up to fourth in the table.

Kabba Jack (2), Hugh Dathan and Taylor Leonard were on target for Bashley as the New Forest team beat Verwood Town 4-0.

Charlie Willett’s double wasn’t enough to prevent Lymington Town from returning empty-handed from the Isle of Wight, where the Linnets were beaten 3-2 by Cowes Sports.

Lee Vint and Peter Richmond-Cole both netted hat-tricks, with Harry Cooper adding a double, as Ringwood Town stunned third-placed Laverstock & Ford 8-3 in Division One.

Christchurch beat basement team East Cowes Victoria 2-1 courtesy of strikes by Oliver King and Luke Stone. The win lifts the Hurn Bridge side up to seventh in the table.

Adam Louka and Ollie Bennett were on the scoresheet as New Milton Town recovered a two-goal deficit to draw at United Services Portsmouth.
