MATT Ford believes Kacper Gomolski is turning out at tonight's Blue Riband because he wants to lay the groundwork for a return to Poole.

Despite a rollercoaster 2015, Polish star Gomolski was a popular figure at Wimborne Road during that title-winning season.

The Gniezno-born charger secured Pirates a third straight Elite League crown when he won heat 14 in the second leg of the grand final at home to Belle Vue.

There was no place for Gomolski in this year's team but Poole promoter Ford is open to bringing back the 23-year-old former Swindon ace in future.

Ford told the Daily Echo: "I think Kacper is coming back for the Blue Riband because he wants to open the door for a return to the club.

"The door would never be closed. He came in last year and was very popular with the fans.

"On the track he was hit and miss but he performed brilliantly at times and it was justified when he won the heat that won us the league.

"He is certainly someone I am keeping an eye on."

The Blue Riband will be the final meeting of the season at Wimborne Road and Ford is urging supporters to get their speedway fix while the chance exists.

Ford added: "Easter is late next year and I don't foresee we will be open until then, so this will be the last speedway at Wimborne Road for six months.

"I would urge fans to come and see 20 pulsating heats run on the old world championship format.

"Every rider will face every rider and there will only be a run-off if riders tie on points. It's something a bit different and it promises to be an entertaining evening."
