EDDIE HOWE and his Cherries players are determined to build on last week's 1-0 victory over Everton by delivering a stirring 90-minute display to rival that which downed the Merseysiders when they take on Watford tomorrow.

Howe admits his side hadn't strung together a consistent performance this term until they overran Ronald Koeman's side at Vitality Stadium.

The manager pointed to Cherries' strong first-half showings at the season's outset against Manchester United and Crystal Palace, which sandwiched an encouraging second 45 minutes at West Ham, as occasions on which his team had fallen short of delivering from the first whistle until the last.

But Howe says his players' approach to their jobs against Everton set down a marker for the season.

He said: "When you reflect, and think of last year as well, I think it was right up there in terms of everything we want to see from a Bournemouth team.

"Our energy, our desire, our work-rate, our quality. I think it was all there. And I think the message this week to the players is that those are the standards we’ve set and we’ve got to hit them consistently."

Watford go into the weekend's game off the back of a 2-0 defeat and sub-par display at Burnley on Monday night. Nevertheless, on their previous home outing a fortnight ago Walter Mazzarri's side were in sparkling form to beat Manchester United 3-1.

And Benik Afobe is expecting to encounter a Hornets team in good spirits.

"Watford will be confident," said the Cherries striker. "They beat Manchester United at home and they’ll feel teams will be coming there with a bit of fear. But we won’t go there with any fear.

"We know that if we play our best football we’ll have joy against any team in the Premier League. We’re confident, we’re not scared of anyone and we want to keep climbing the table. We want to perform in every single game for our fans and for ourselves. The manager will talk to us about tactics and a plan and I’m sure we’ll execute that and get a result."

Howe has all the players who featured last Saturday available for the trip to Vicarage Road. Josh King could come back into the frame after the forward was ruled out of Everton's visit with a hamstring problem. Marc Pugh remains a few weeks away from reaching full-fitness, with the midfielder still recovering from his own hamstring injury.
