EDDIE Howe says he prevents players not picked in Cherries' first-team from becoming disillusioned by formulating a plan for each individual.

Howe added eight new players during the summer, including Arsenal's Jack Wilshere on loan.

But, with the exception of Wilshere and Jordon Ibe, the fresh faces are yet to force their way into Cherries' first 11.

Benik Afobe, signed in January for £10million and this season restricted to a substitute's role in Premier League games, spoke glowingly this week of the fashion in which his manager keeps all his players onside.

What's more, Afobe confessed things "didn't click" for his team, when Howe handed his raft of fringe players an opportunity to play in the recent EFL Cup defeat by Preston.

The manager admitted after that game that he hadn't been presented with any immediate selection dilemmas.

But he is keen to emphasise everybody will get their chance - and they must be prepared to take it.

"I think you have to have a plan for every player," said Howe. "We have signed a lot of players, a lot of young players that are still learning and developing, so they need to show patience. But they need to develop their games, so when they do get their chance they’re able to take it.

"The more experienced players, they also need to be ready when their chance comes. Sometimes you might get 10 minutes, 20 minutes, 30 minutes to impress and to leave a thought in my mind that you could be ready to start the next week.

"Football can change very, very quickly. One minute you can think, 'I can’t see an opportunity here’ - and the next week you’re playing. So your training is absolutely crucial to your week."
