WIMBORNE roared into the Dorset & Wilts Cup semi-finals with a 32-0 whitewash of Sherborne in front of a bumper crowd at Leigh Park.

Despite set-piece frailties and lapses of discipline in the first half, the Minstermen took an eight-point lead courtesy of a try from Joe Bartlett and a penalty from the same man.

After the restart, Wimborne kicked into gear and showed the sort of form that had seen them concede just eight points in their previous two games.

Two early tries, one converted, from Bartlett and wing Jordan Brown settled the nerves.

Additional scores from Tom Starr and Tom Moysey, the second converted by Bartlett, reflected the difference in class between the sides.

Wimborne manager Dan Draper said: "A good cup run can do wonders. Morale and confidence is high and we can look forward to a semi-final tie in a few weeks.

"Today was a real success on and off the field, not just the senior side winning but also our One Club Day.

"Lots of youngsters from various age groups were participating in rugby in the morning and right until kick-off."

Elsewhere, Oakmeadians won a 30-29 thriller at home to Pewsey Vale in the Dorset & Wilts Senior Vase first round. Poole triumphed 33-17 at Dinton in the Dorset & Wilts Junior Vase quarter-final.
