CHERRIES boss Eddie Howe is among the bookies' favourites to become the next England manager – after Sam Allardyce tonight parted company with the FA.

England manager Allardyce was filmed by The Telegraph allegedly offering advice on how to bypass Football Association regulations on player transfers. It is also alleged Allardyce used his role to negotiate a £400,000 deal.

FA bosses today met to discuss the issue, which surfaced just one game into Allardyce's stint in charge of the Three Lions, and this evening released a statement confirming Allardyce's contract had been terminated "by mutual consent".

The former Newcastle United and Bolton Wanderers manager was named national boss in July.

Howe was among the bookies' favourites for the hot seat following Roy Hodgson's exit after Euro 2016. But despite being heavily tipped, Howe subsequently told the Daily Echo he had not been approached by the FA.

Howe is among a string of names being backed by punters for the job.

Alan Pardew, Steve Bruce, Gareth Southgate, Jurgen Klinsmann, Glenn Hoddle and Gary Neville are also among the leading contenders.
