BOSS Tom Killick saw substitute Sam Surridge grab Poole Town a dramatic late winner before declaring the youngster's well taken strike: "The first of many".

Cherries loan striker Surridge scored his first goal for Dolphins in the first minute of second-half stoppage time to hand the hosts a 2-1 win over Welling United, a result which elevated the Tatnam side to fifth in the National South standings.

The 18-year-old poked low past Wings keeper Chris Lewington after he had been sent clear in behind, adding to Jamie Whisken's earlier leveller after Dean Morgan had given the visitors a first-half lead from the spot.

Killick told the Daily Echo: "I was so pleased for Sam because he has done well for us but as a side we haven't been playing well so we haven't given him much to work with.

"He came off the bench and scored the winning goal and I think that will do him an awful lot of good.

"I saw him going through and the goalkeeper spread himself really well and I just think it was a really clever finish. A lot of people would have side-footed it straight into the goalkeeper but it was very accomplished the way he took it.

"I think it will be the first of many for him. He's got a lot of talent."

Dolphins defender Will Spetch clipped the post inside the opening 15 minutes before Welling were awarded a penalty by referee Gary Parsons after he harshly deemed Lewis Lindsay had brought down Wings skipper Danny Waldren.

Striker Morgan duly sent Nick Hutchings the wrong way from the spot.

Spetch saw his header brilliantly kept out by Lewington and the home side upped the pace after the interval, forcing an equaliser in the 56th minute.

Steve Devlin’s low free-kick hit the wall and after Luke Roberts’s shot was parried by Lewington, Whisken had one bite at the cherry with his foot before making no mistake with his head.

Lewington and Hutchings subsequently made smart stops and with three minutes to go, the unmarked Ali Fuseini failed to control the ball with the goal gaping.

New loan recruit Keiran Bailey was brought on in the closing moments but it was his Cherries club-mate Surridge who stole the show, sending the home supporters into raptures with a composed finish.

Killick, who disagreed with the penalty decision, was pleased with his team's display.

He added: "It was one of our better performances in terms of our attacking. We seemed to run out of steam a little bit at the end and they started coming into it.

"But if we hadn't got three points, I would have felt we had been very unfortunate because on the balance of chances, we definitely deserved to win.

"It was very much in the balance until the end."
