CHERRIES midfielder Ben Whitfield made his Football League debut in Yeovil Town's 4-1 defeat at Doncaster.

The 20-year-old entered the fray with 15 minutes to go as the Glovers tried to overturn a 2-1 deficit.

However, within moments of Whitfield replacing goalscorer Ryan Hedges, Yeovil were reduced to 10 men after Bevis Mugabi was sent off for a second yellow card.

And in the closing minutes, Andy Williams added two further goals to complete an emphatic win for Donny.

Set to remain with Yeovil until January, Whitfield has linked up with Cherries club-mate Matt Butcher at Huish Park. Butcher played 90 minutes of the loss to Doncaster.

Whitfield enjoyed a successful loan spell with National League side Kidderminster Harriers last term, establishing himself as a fans’ favourite.

He made 29 appearances and scored six goals, including four in his first 13 games.

The youngster's positive performances at Aggborough were then rewarded upon his return to Vitality Stadium, the promising prospect penning a new one-year deal in March.

Whitfield was one of two youngsters to commit his future to the club at the start of that month, with Jack Simpson also signing a new two-year deal.

Simpson travelled with the squad to Liverpool for a League Cup clash in October last season.
