EDDIE Howe saw Cherries stung by another late goal in the Premier League before insisting: "Ultimately, you always get what you deserve."

Cherries were cruelly sunk by Michail Antonio's late strike at West Ham eight days ago and Crystal Palace defender Scott Dann cost the Dorset outfit further points on Saturday.

Joshua King put the visitors in front early on at Selhurst Park and just as Howe's men appeared to have withstood a barrage of second-half pressure, Dann headed home the equaliser in the third minute of added time.

Cherries now have one point on the board after three games of the league season, two fewer than at the same stage of their inaugural top-flight campaign.

The start to last season saw Cherries not earn the points their performances arguably merited, with positive displays against Aston Villa, Liverpool and Leicester yielding just one point combined – albeit with a win at West Ham in between.

Asked if it was a similar situation this time round, the boss told the Daily Echo: “You can look at it like that but, ultimately, you always get what you deserve.

“The key thing for us is that we need to keep working as hard as we are, believe in what we’re trying to do and how we play and the results will come.

"We got a point today and beat Morecambe in midweek so for me we’ve got to be positive rather than negative.

“We’re up and running in terms of away points and West Ham and Crystal Palace were always going to be tough away fixtures, as every away game in the Premier League is.

“I’ve always said I think this is going to be the toughest Premier League ever with the players and managers coming in. We are in our second season and that brings its own pitfalls and challenges.

“You have disappointments and the players will have two weeks to think about today. The main thing for us is that we hit the performance levels we’re looking for."

While admitting the draw had been a bitter pill to swallow given the last-gasp nature of Dann's intervention, Howe felt there had been positives to take from the clash in London.

The manager praised the rearguard effort after Palace were repeatedly kept at bay until the closing seconds.

Howe added: "It's a difficult one to take.

"I thought we were very good in the first half and I was really pleased. We scored a deserved goal and it could, potentially, have been more.

"In the second half we came under extreme pressure and, unfortunately, couldn't hold up.

"There have been question marks over our defending at times but I thought the centre-backs, supported by the goalkeeper and everyone else in the team, really did put in a good display.

"When you come here you know you are going to be under big pressure – a lot of long balls, crosses and set plays – and you have to stand up to that challenge and I felt for the majority of the game we did that very well."
