DETERMINED boss Eddie Howe believes better service for Cherries' strikers is key if his team is to prove a potent attacking threat.

Cherries have managed one goal in their first two games of the Premier League season against Manchester United and West Ham.

In those fixtures, Howe's side had a combined 17 shots with just eight of those efforts on target.

The Vitality Stadium boss admits his team must sharpen up in attacking areas and says the blame should not be laid solely at the feet of the strikers.

Asked if his team needed to create more chances in order to be successful, Howe said: “The criticism in the two league games has probably been that.

"We’ve threatened and got a lot of balls into the final third, our build-up play has been very good but then it’s just petered out.

"A lot of people looked at the strikers instantly to say it’s their responsibility. But they need service and they need to be fed and I don’t think we’ve done that, potentially, as well as we could have done.

“I think that’s certainly an area where we need to improve. It’s hard to score in the Premier League and break teams down but that’s what we’re going to need to do to win games."

Howe wants individuals within his squad to assume responsibility for winning Cherries league games and says those players could come from any position on the field.

He added: “We’re looking for someone in the squad to win us a game.

“We can’t look at each other and think ‘I hope he does it’. It’s got to be ‘I’m going to do it’ and I think we need that kind of mentality.

“I’m looking for someone, whether it be a wide player, a central midfield player, a centre-half, even a goalkeeper, to produce a moment to win us a game.”

Discussing matters on the injury front ahead of tomorrow's meeting with Crystal Palace, Howe added: "In the main, everyone’s fit. Rhoys Wiggins, Baily Cargill and Corey Jordan are all out injured at the moment.

“Junior Stanislas is building himself up to full fitness. He got a good 60 minutes and one or two others who were carrying previous injuries came through the game against Morecambe well on Wednesday, so I’m quite pleased with how the squad is in terms of its physical shape.”

Howe added: “I’m expecting a difficult game, like every game in the Premier League.

“We had two tight games against Crystal Palace last year, there was nothing between the sides in both games. They’ve got some good players and have recruited well so it will be interesting to see how they set up.

“We can expect a physical challenge. That’s one thing you know about Crystal Palace, both from an athletic perspective and a physical perspective, so it will be a tough game for us.”
