CAPTAIN Chris Park believes Luke Matthews "ticks all the boxes" ahead of the teenage batsman's Dorset debut.

Bournemouth's Matthews has been drafted in for tomorrow's Unicorns Championship clash with Wales at Chapel Gate (11am).

The University of Exeter student is one of three incoming names with Tom Jacques and Josh Digby also selected.

Batsmen Tom Arnold and Luke Webb are unavailable while spinner Jem Warner is omitted.

Reflecting on Matthews's call-up, Park told the Daily Echo: "Luke has scored well for Bournemouth and Dorset Leopards recently and with Tom Arnold and Luke Webb missing, he ticks all the boxes.

"We are picking a man in form and his call-up is fully deserved.

"He works hard on his game and is always there at practice, so his hard work has paid off."

Sixteen-year-old Max Trueman, one of the youngest players to ever represent the county, will open the batting in only his third Western Division appearance.

He has been pushed up the order and Park feels the teenager will rise to the challenge.

Park said: "It's a big step for Max in his third game but myself and Paul Prichard see him as a top-three batsman rather than a middle-order batsman.

"We are looking for him to get some grounding and experience at the top of the order facing the opening bowlers.

"Although his score didn't reflect it, he batted really nicely in our last game against Cornwall in the first innings.

"He is still learning and we are keen to have a look at him this weekend."
