AN EIGHT-man junior team from Greenbaize Snooker Club were beaten by a strong Chandler’s Ford side.

The visitors triumphed 48-28 to claim the Margaret Anne Stevenson Inter Club Challenge Trophy.

World Snooker coach Tim Dunkley, who managed Chandler’s Ford, said: “I think our strength in depth proved the difference.

“This is an excellent way to finish off a long and hard season for all the lads from both clubs. Well done to Mark Wells for organising the event.”

The event comprised 24 three-frame singles matches and four doubles frames

Bill Stevenson, who sponsored the event in memory of his late wife, presented the trophies.

It is hoped the tournament will become an annual event.

Greenbaize is again due to host two scratch Summer Classic tournaments.

On Sunday, August 7 an under-21 tournament will take place. The format is a best-of-five knockout with a best-of-three plate competition for preliminary and first-round losers.

An entry fee payable on the day is £10. There are trophies for winners, runners-up and the high break in the main competition. All entry fees will be returned as prize money.

On Sunday, August 21 a 32-player open tournament will take place. Entry will be restricted to the first 32 players who have paid £20 by 10am on the day.

Again, the event will be a straight best-of-five knockout with possible prize money of £640. There will also be a plate competition.
