BULLISH Kyle Newman is primed for a return to Poole Pirates' play-off push and insists: "We are masters of our own destiny".

The Pirates reserve emerged unscathed from a practice session at Peterborough over the weekend and confirmed he would be back for tomorrow's home clash with Coventry (7.30).

Poole sit just outside the Elite League's top four but with up to five meetings in hand on their rivals and the homegrown hero reckons they are still well placed to attack the summit.

Newman said: “We have lots of matches in hand over the teams above us which means we are masters of our own destiny.

"Most would see it as a shock if we didn’t make the play-offs at least but we have to aim higher than that.

“When you look at the table, Wolverhampton will have raced six matches more than us by the end of tonight.

“We know we will have to win a lot of matches between now and the end of the season but I’m confident we have a side that can challenge to finish top before the play-offs begin. Our fans expect that.”

On his practice, Newman added: “It went better than I expected. My strength was good and I felt comfortable on the bike and I now feel ready to resume racing.

“It’s a good match for me to come back into. We are playing catch up in the Elite League table in terms of matches and points so a win against the Bees is a must."
