GLENN Murray said he had not fitted in at Cherries after securing a season-long loan at Brighton.

The towering striker joined Cherries from Crystal Palace in September for a fee of around £4million, signing a three-year deal.

Murray scored three goals in 19 Premier League appearances last season but featured just once in the top flight following the closure of the January transfer window.

The arrivals of Benik Afobe and Lewis Grabban and the return to fitness of Callum Wilson seemingly pushed the 32-year-old down the pecking order.

Having linked up with former employers Brighton, Murray admitted to mixed feelings over his first season with Cherries.

Murray said: "It's great to be back at the club (Brighton) and to start the job in hand.

"There were murmurings in January and through the loan window. Unfortunately, that didn't come to fruition.

"I'm really happy it's sorted now. I didn't feature much for Bournemouth last year.

"It was nice to be a small part of the Bournemouth story. It is fantastic for a club of their size to be where they are.

"Unfortunately, it didn't work out for me. I didn't play much and I'm happy to get out.

"I don't particularly think I fitted into Bournemouth's style of play. I think I was seen as something different if that didn't work."

The experienced centre-forward was a firm favourite with Brighton supporters during a three-and-a-half year stay at the club between January 2008 and May 2011. He scored 56 goals in all competitions during that spell.

Murray was speaking to the Argus.
