CLARE Martin wrote another chapter in the Purbeck Runners record books when she set a new club-best at the Egdon Easy 10k in Weymouth.

Her impressive time of 40:53 helped her finish runner-up and broke a Purbeck Runners record which had stood for six years.

Martin was involved in a titanic battle with Poole AC’s Lesley Moore who eventually prevailed by just three seconds.

Steve Bridger, who was 12th in a time of 37:22, was the leading Purbeck Runners man, while Hamish Murray picked up another trophy after being crowned champion of the over-60 section.

Meanwhile, Iona Sheerin secured a triple triumph at the Dorset Track and Field Championships in King's Park.

Sheerin gained three under-17 women’s wins, taking the 100 metres in 13 seconds, the 200m in 26.6 seconds and the shot with a distance of 11.19m.

Grace Copeland doubled the middle distances (800m 2:18.4, 1500m 4:40.4), while Charlotte Sidaway received the verdict over Olivia Galloway in the 80m hurdles as both clocked 12.5s.

Amelia Davis won over 300m in 42.1s and Hannah Slater gained 1500m steeplechase gold (5:41.4).

Gemma Kennard high jumped 1.60m and Charlotte Ayton long jumped 5.34m to edge out Izzy Wedderburn by 2cm, while Amelia Dobson claimed the triple jump with 10.48m.

Dorchester’s Robinson Okumu won the under-17 men’s sprints (11.6s, 22.4s), with Joseph Mitchell of Poole Runners taking 400m hurdles gold (58.7s).

Caitlin Batcheldor (under-15, 46.05m) set a meeting hammer record, while Dorchester’s Eva Bowring (under-17, 37.39m) and Wimborne’s Martha Taylor (under-15, 32.05m) impressed in the javelin.

Poole AC duo Lewis Naptin (100m 12.2s, shot 9.81m) and Lloyd Arnold (300m 40.1s) were among the under-15 boys winners. Wimborne AC’s Jack Ayton cleared 1.62m for high jump gold.

Bournemouth AC’s Elle Ward won the under-15 girls sprints (13.3s, 27.4s) with Issariya Harrison the 75m hurdles victor for Poole Runners (12.6s).

Wimborne dominated the distance races through Abbie Lovering (800m 2:22.2, 1500m 4:52.6) and Holly Nixon (3000m 11:09.6).

Ben Butcher added five under-13 victories to his recent County quadrathlon title, including high jump (1.50m) and long jump (4.85m).

Poole AC’s Josh Smith won the 800m with a fine solo 2:19.7, with club-mates Heidi Taylor (800m 2:31.5) and Ashia Wilson (1500m 5:12.7) also achieving gold.
