FORMER boss Adie Arnold is understood to be a shock candidate for the managerial vacancy at Verwood Town.

Arnold established himself as the Potterne Park club’s most successful manager when he guided them to the Sydenhams Wessex One title in 2012.

He then preserved their Premier Division status for two seasons but quit in March 2014 and subsequently had an ill-fated spell in charge of Christchurch.

Arnold politely declined to comment on the speculation but former Poole Town coach Gavin Reeves confirmed he had thrown his own hat into the ring.

The 47-year-old worked under Arnold’s successor Carl Poore before switching to Christchurch when Alan Lay took over near the start of last season.

Reeves, whose playing career included spells at Christchurch, Swanage Town & Herston and Wareham, told the Daily Echo: “I applied last season because I felt the time was right to take that step.

"I have spoken to the chairman this time and I’m just waiting to hear now.

“Verwood is a good club and one I know well. There is a good bunch of people running it so it would be a good fit for me.”

Potters chairman Steve Jefferis was unavailable for comment.
