FORMER Bournemouth School pupil Charlie Ewels has been named in the England Saxons squad for their tour to South Africa next month.

Bath second-row Ewels has been included alongside the likes of senior internationals Danny Cipriani, Kieran Brooks and Luther Burrell.

The trip will involve two matches against South Africa's second team.

Ewels, who cut his teeth in the youth ranks at Bournemouth Rugby Club, attended an England training camp in Brighton prior to his selection.

Also included in the Saxons squad is former Lytchett Minster three-quarter Semesa Rokoduguni, who plays alongside Ewels at Bath.

Saxons head coach Ali Hepher said: "Eddie Jones has given us a strong development squad to take on a South Africa A side.

"Playing South Africa twice in South Africa is going to be a great challenge and a significant test for us but it is also an incredibly exciting opportunity for the players and management to prove themselves.

"The series will give the players international experience and will be an important stepping stone towards international honours."

Ewels, a former England under-20s captain, is thought to have caught the eye of national boss Jones and forwards coach Steve Borthwick during his rise at Bath.
