HANS Andersen believes a relaxed approach will boost his bid to return to the Speedway Grand Prix series ahead of tomorrow’s crunch qualifier at King’s Lynn.

The former world number five and fellow Poole star Brady Kurtz will descend on Norfolk for the qualifying quarter-finals with the top seven earning progress (7.30).

Andersen last competed full-time in the world championship in 2012 and the 35-year-old is desperate to see off the likes of Freddie Lindgren, Craig Cook and Krzysztof Kasprzak in order to keep alive his hopes of returning to the shale sport’s top table.

And the flying Dane, who has nearly 800 points to his name in the world championship, reckons avoiding over-concentration will be key to advancing his case.

He told the Daily Echo: “I’m a lot more experienced than when I was in the series and I can see where I went wrong a few times.

“Sometimes, riders focus too much when it comes to the GPs. They are so good in league racing but when it comes to the GPs they can’t put it together and that’s because they want it too much.

“They don’t see it as a normal meeting and I can see that at times in the past I was too focused. Although this qualifier is a tough meeting, it’s no different to any other. I ride against these boys week in, week out.”

Andersen is in fine fettle having qualified for the Speedway European Championship Challenge after finishing second in a meeting in Mureck, Austria yesterday.

Also in SGP qualifier action is Pirates’ Krzysztof Buczkowski, who rides at Terenzano in Italy. Recent signing Bjarne Pedersen will aim to progress at Abensberg, Germany a week on Monday.

Meanwhile, Chris Holder managed just two points from four rides as Team Monster Energy struggled in the second round of the Speedway Best Pairs in Landshut, Germany yesterday.

Holder and American star Greg Hancock had won the first round in Torun but failed to make the semi-final or final this time in tandem with Pawel Przedpelski, who took two of Holder’s six rides.
