BOURNEMOUTH Poppies rounded off a miserable campaign by equalling their biggest losing margin in the Sydenhams Wessex League for the second time this season.

Manager Ken Vaughan, who described as “horrible” his side’s forgettable season in midweek, presided over a 9-1 thrashing at Team Solent in Saturday’s final Premier Division fixture.

Jim Orvis, Tobi Adekunle (2), Lewis Pitts, Martin Johnson (3), Josh Brimacombe-Wiard and an own goal did the damage in a repeat of the scoreline Poppies had inflicted upon them at Salisbury in August.

The setback saw the Victoria Park club equal 8-0 losses suffered at Andover in November 1999, Winchester in September 2004 and VTFC (now Sholing) in August 2008. Diane Bassiriki netted Poppies’ consolation at Test Park.

Hamworthy United halted their eight-match losing run, ending their season with a 3-2 win over Folland Sports.

Jordan Cole, Josh Pickering and Jack Satterley struck within 15 minutes of each other to seal the deal.

Dean Evans scored as Verwood Town beat Lymington 1-0, securing 17th spot for the Potters who could still leapfrog Hamworthy and Brockenhurst with a win at Fareham on Saturday.

A brace from Mark Barker and goals from Matt Casey, Jake Long and Ollie Griggs gave Brock a 5-2 win over Cowes Sports. Pat McManus’s side still have one match to play at Horndean on Tuesday.

In Division One, rampant Ringwood demolished Andover New Street 7-0 to leapfrog derby rivals New Milton in the final standings.

Elliott Peck, Mike Cowland, Sam Chilman, Matt Steer (2), Kieron Osman and Tom Faulkner all scored for Charlie Pierson’s men, who finish their season at Totton & Eling on Tuesday.

Christchurch ended their season in sixth place after a 4-2 win at Alton Town. Luke Stone and Sam Thompson each bagged doubles for Priory.
