AMY Brown proved a chip off the old block as she led a 77-medal haul for Swim Bournemouth at the Bristol Open Meet.

The 11-year-old won nine medals in her club’s first competition of 2016, including a haul of six golds.

The Avonbourne School youngster is already following in the footsteps of father Andy Brown and uncle Iain Brown, who were two of the biggest names in Dorset swimming more than 25 years ago.

The Brown brothers both swam in national championships as stars of the Ferndown Otters squad that took swimming in the county to uncharted waters during the 1980s.

Andy, now a Bournemouth property developer and one of Swim Bournemouth’s assistant coaches, said: “I would like to think that my kids have inherited the swimming genes.

“Amy is like a little dolphin. She trains hard, is very committed and focused and you can’t ask for any more.”

Amy, who won 16 gold medals in her age group at last year’s Dorset championships, is targeting finals at her first national age group championships in 2016.

Her gold medals at Bristol came in the 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke, 50m and 100m backstroke and 200m individual medley.

Her sister, 10-year-old Ellie Brown, was also among the medals, winning bronze in the 50m breaststroke.

Team-mates Josh Wickens and Callum McGregor each scooped a hat-trick of gold medals.

Wickens won the 12yrs 50m and 100m butterfly and 200m freestyle, while McGregor was first in the 15yrs 100m and 200m breaststroke and 200m butterfly, as well as taking away three silver medals.

Two golds apiece went to Ollie Fairman and Hannah Stonier, Fairman winning the 13yrs 100m and 200m breaststroke and Stonier the 14yrs 100m and 200m butterfly.

Angus Corbin, Megan Leaper, Abby Manns and Kelvin Wong each won one gold medal.

A top prize proved elusive for Drew McGregor but he matched Amy Brown with his personal tally of nine medals – seven silver and two bronze.

Other Swim Bournemouth medallists: Alex Palotai-Avella, Archie Corbin, Max Looker, Milo Treloar, Toby Kitchener, Danielle Case, Izzy Hepburn, Morgan Long, Harriet Fish, Frankie Gallimore, Eleanor Devin, Jess Richens, Ajay Coombes, Millie Sleeman, Lisa Du Toit, Ella Bowman.
