CHERRIES are expected to renew interest in Crystal Palace striker Dwight Gayle once the transfer window has reopened in January.

Gayle was reported to have been a target for Cherries boss Eddie Howe during the summer but nothing ever materialised.

However, it is understood the Dorset club could be preparing to make a move for the 25-year-old in an attempt to bolster their striking options.

Gayle, who had been on the verge of joining Bristol City in August before the move fell through, netted 10 goals in 29 appearances for the Eagles last season.

But he was used predominantly from the bench after Alan Pardew had taken charge at Selhurst Park in January and has yet to find the target in six games in the Premier League this season.

The diminutive frontman, who scored four times in three League Cup outings for Palace this season, was sent off during their 3-1 defeat by West Ham in October.

And although he returned to start the 0-0 draw with Manchester United last month, Gayle has not featured in Palace’s past two games.

Cherries have also again been linked with former Dean Court star Lewis Grabban who they unsuccessfully tried to sign in the last transfer window.
