TOM Killick labelled Poole Town "unplayable" after they defied disrupted preparations to destroy Histon 7-0 in the Southern Premier.

The table-topping Dolphins arrived at Bridge Road little over half an hour before kick-off having endured a mammoth five-hour trek from Dorset.

But it mattered not as they made a stunning start to proceedings, racing into a 5-0 lead with a paltry 17 minutes on the clock.

Jack Dickson struck first before two Steve Devlin penalties sandwiched a Luke Burbidge effort and an own goal from Histon loanee Luke Trotman rendered the game effectively over.

A couple of second-half goals from Toby Holmes completed the job, the woodwork denying the visitors a bigger margin of victory on more than one occasion.

Boss Killick told the Daily Echo: "You always fear how you will start when your preparation has been disrupted but it is a strange quirk that often it seems to work in reverse.

"We were 5-0 up after 17 minutes so something certainly worked for us!

"It was surreal to watch. We were absolutely rampant. In previous weeks we had played really well without converting a massive percentage of our chances but to start with, everything was going in.

"In the first 17 minutes, we were just unplayable and overall it was an immense performance. The players have been exceptional lately and they deserve great credit."

Victory made a lengthy journey home more tolerable with Killick not arriving home until around 2.30am.

He added: "A few of the lads had to be up at 5am the next day, which was not ideal for them!

"The league tend to front-load the fixtures so as long as we don't have postponements, we shouldn't have too many midweek fixtures now.

"We have suffered from fixture congestion ourselves in the past so it's good to get those games out of the way."

Poole are due to travel to Kettering on Saturday as they aim to extend their advantage at the summit of the Southern Premier.

And Killick is expecting the home side to present a stern test following recent forays in the transfer market.

He continued: “Kettering have added to their squad of late and they seem to be trying to make a strong challenge.

“They have had a couple of good results and beat Chesham comfortably on Tuesday.

“The calibre of players they are signing shows what they are trying to do and I think that it will be a big test for us.”
