OLLIE Cherrett saw Christchurch cash in on super-sub Luke Stone’s injury-time dash into the box but admitted he would not have paid for the privilege.

Stone settled matters with a penalty in the third minute of added time to hand Priory a 2-1 win over Totton & Eling in Sydenhams Wessex One on Saturday.

Candid boss Cherrett felt it had been a dull affair but was pleased to pouch the points after conceding the opener midway through the second half.

Matt Swindlehurst levelled from a corner with seven minutes to play before Stone, who made his first appearance since chipping a bone in his foot, intervened during the dying embers.

“I don’t think Luke wants to stay as super-sub,” said Cherrett. “You’re always going to miss top players so it was a massive plus and encouraging for the lads to have him on the bench.

“The game was a pretty dull affair to be honest, I certainly wouldn’t have wanted to pay to watch it but we stuck at it.

“They dropped quite deep so it was difficult to get in behind but the one time they did squeeze up, we put a ball over the top and Luke got pulled down in the box.

“It was the bit of luck we needed, especially after the devastation of losing in the 119th minute last weekend.”
