ASSISTANT-manager Jason Tindall hinted injury-plagued Cherries would take a cautious approach with “one or two knocks” ahead of tomorrow’s League Cup clash at Liverpool.

Cherries have been beset by long-term complaints with the heart of last season’s Championship-winning team – captain Tommy Elphick, player-of-the-year Harry Arter and top scorer Callum Wilson – sidelined alongside summer recruits Max Gradel and Tyrone Mings.

Eddie Howe’s right-hand man revealed there had been “no major concerns” following Sunday’s 5-1 defeat to Tottenham but that avoiding the prospect of adding to the club’s crippling list of casualties would be a priority at Anfield (7.45pm).

Tindall told the Daily Echo: “There were one or two knocks in the game (against Tottenham) but no major concerns over players.

“They were assessed this morning and will be again tomorrow. From there, we will make the decision whether to take the risk and play them or whether we think it might cause further damage.

“We have another big game at the weekend against Southampton so we have to make sure we get the balance right by picking a team that is 100 per cent fit and will remain 100 per cent fit.”

Cherries changed their entire XI in the second round at Hartlepool and made nine switches at Preston but Tindall suggested the club’s stretched resources would make that impossible this time.

“I don’t think we can with the amount of injuries we have. It won’t be possible to make the number of changes we have in previous rounds," he said.

“We pretty much had another XI that we believed to be good enough to win those games. We haven’t got that luxury in terms of bodies available. I don’t think there will be wholesale changes.”

However, Tindall argued the match would be an ideal opportunity for the team to put their recent troubles behind them.

“You are going to have two teams that have not won in their past couple of games and are going to want to go out and perform well,” he added.

“Hopefully, we can go and do that but it will be a tough game. It has always been a tough game when we have played Liverpool in the past and this one will be no different.

“Off the back of two defeats, you want to win your next game as quickly as possible. This is an opportunity for us to do that against a really good side and if we do manage it then it will give us great confidence.

“It almost takes the pressure off the league and could potentially give us the confidence to go to Liverpool without the worry of points.

“Winning would give us a great lift and would hopefully be the catalyst for us to get back to performing well and winning games in the Premier League.”
