MATT Ford has admitted that Maciej Janowski may turn his back on British racing after reportedly tying up a deal in Sweden.

Pirates talisman Janowski appears bound for Dackarna having already penned a two-year deal with home town club Wroclaw.

The 24-year-old is poised to seal his 2016 Grand Prix berth in Melbourne later this month and Wimborne Road chief Ford expects a final decision to be made on Janowski's British future by the time he jets Down Under.

Ford told the Daily Echo: "I will have a definitive answer from Maciej before the next Grand Prix and it is possible that he may not want to ride in Sweden and Britain next year.

"I don't want to hang about too long because I know other clubs are speaking to riders and one or two have asked to speak to riders on our retained list."

Ford has so far held talks with two riders over the prospect of a return to Dorset as he bids to build a team capable of securing further silverware for Pirates' trophy cabinet.

And it is believed that Janowski is his number one target.

The former Swindon charger has represented Pirates for the past three seasons, during which time the club has secured three straight top-flight titles, a feat not previously achieved in the Elite League era.

And Ford was full of praise for the character of the Polish national champion, a hugely-respected figure among the Poole faithful.

Ford said: "Maciej has captained the club during the most productive period in its history.

"Clearly, he is very popular with us. He lives with me and my wife and he is a quite wonderful human being. We truly do adore Maciej."

The British Speedway Promoters' Association's AGM is due to begin in eight days, which will dictate to a large extent the make-up of Poole's new line-up.

And Ford added: "Things will be done pretty quickly after the AGM."
