THE fundraising drive for Darcy Ward received a boost after Dave Stokes – one of Davey Watt's sponsors – donated a special scooter.

He put forward a Turbo Twins-themed Piaggio Vespa PX125 emblazoned with images of Darcy Ward, Chris Holder and Neil Middleditch.

Stokes, who works for South Coast Demolition, had been keen to help Ward through rehabilitation following his horrifying crash in August.

So the avid speedway fan told close friend and Pirates boss Middleditch to sell the scooter on eBay in order to raise money for the Queenslander.

The bidding was started at £500 last night but had risen to £770 this lunchtime.

Middleditch told the Daily Echo: "Dave had the scooter done up a couple of years ago and it has basically been sitting in his garage since.

"Out of the blue he walked up to me the other day with a log book and told me to put it on eBay for Darcy. It was a fantastic gesture from him."

To find the scooter, search for 'Darcy Ward' in the eBay search bar.

The official fundraising page of two-time world under-21 champion Ward has already raised more than £42,500.
