WORLD champion Scott Mitchell came agonisingly close to ending his individual trophy drought but got trumped by Dean Reynolds in the Belgian Open semifinal yesterday.
‘Scotty Dog’ took the Welsh youngster to a last-leg decider in Antwerp, despite trailing 2-0 in the last set.
Against the throw, Mitchell had a shot at a 160 finish but failed to land the double top before bowing out.
Along the way, the Bransgore-based star beat Holland’s Richard Veenstra 4-1, Eddie White from Ferndown 4-2 and former world champion Scott Waites 5-4 in the quarter-final.
