CHERRIES have confirmed overnight reports that star striker Callum Wilson has signed a new four-year contract with the club.

Wilson and his representatives have been in negotiation with the club since the end of last season with news of his new deal reported last night by the Guardian.

The 23-year-old spearheaded Cherries’ promotion by netting 23 goals in all competitions, including four in the last six games, and started all but one of their 46 league matches.

Wilson had been linked with a host of leading Premier League clubs having taken the Championship by storm during his first season at Dean Court. Chelsea, Tottenham and Aston Villa were believed to have been among his suitors.

He had been just 12 months into a four-year contract after signing from Coventry City for around £2.5million last summer.

However, it is believed promotion triggered a clause in Wilson’s initial contract which said he would be entitled to discuss a new deal with the club.

Wilson, who was named Championship player of the month for October, also won international recognition when he came off the bench for England under-21s in a 3-2 defeat by France in a friendly in November.
