BOURNEMOUTH’S rising star Georgia Hall will today attempt to grab a last-gasp spot in the Women’s British Open at Turnberry.

The 19-year-old professional, who shared the silver medal as an amateur in 2013, is due to compete in final qualifying at Irvine Golf Club in Ayrshire.

Off the back of a tied-33rd finish at the Scottish Open at the nearby Dundonald Links, Hall is set to be joined in the field by Parkstone amateur Sophie Keech and Brokenhurst Manor’s Liz Young.

Final qualifying represents Hall’s last chance to reach Thursday’s British Open with 18 holes between her and a third straight appearance at the tournament.

The top 11 players will progress.

Hall, who has never featured in the event as a pro, told the Daily Echo: “It’s the biggest Major of the year by a mile, in my opinion. When I was growing up, it was the Major I wanted to win the most.

“My first British Open was in Scotland and this one is as well so that would be special. I’ve never played Turnberry before but it sounds amazing and I’d like the chance to compete.

“It’s only 18 holes in final qualifying so it’s important to get off to a steady start. It’s definitely possible to make it through because some of the players aren’t used to links golf but we will see how it goes.

"If I play how I know I can play, then I think I have a good chance.”
