CHERRIES rounded off their US training camp with a comfortable 4-1 victory over Major League Soccer outfit Philadelphia Union.

Goals from Joshua King, Callum Wilson, Marc Pugh and Tokelo Rantie gave the Premier League new boys a winning start to their pre-season schedule.

Boss Eddie Howe had promised plenty of substitutions and duly delivered on his pledge as no fewer than 24 members of the Cherries squad featured at PPL Park.

But it did not seem to detract from the visitors' rhythm unduly as they dominated proceedings in Pennsylvania.

Matt Ritchie was the first player to seriously test John McCarthy when he thumped Andrew Surman’s lay-off goalwards and the diving keeper parried smartly to safety.

Cherries had started promisingly and, in the 17th minute, the opener arrived. Adam Smith found King and the summer signing spun away from his man before dinking expertly over McCarthy from a tight angle.

A second goal was not long in coming and Smith was again involved, the full-back playing a slick one-two with Ritchie before delivering a low cross that came to Wilson via King, allowing the ex-Coventry man to fire calmly home.

Cherries created further chances but Ritchie and Junior Stanislas both failed to hit the target after being afforded space outside the box.

Having threatened seldom, Union pulled one back in the 35th minute when right-back Sheanon Williams swung in a cross and Richie Marquez rose unchallenged to direct a bullet header into the bottom-left corner.

Ritchie curled wide of the far post to round off the first period before Howe made 11 half-time changes, his opposite number Jim Curtin opting to throw on just five fresh players.

Chelsea loanee Christian Atsu was left frustrated after Williams superbly cleared his effort off the line, while Pugh's heavy touch when well-placed cost him an opportunity.

But the ex-Hereford man was soon on the scoresheet just short of the hour. Rantie pulled back and Pugh shifted the ball onto his right side before sweeping emphatically into the top corner.

Record signing Tyrone Mings was substituted in favour of Elliott Ward with 17 minutes left and soon after Rantie danced clear of his marker and slammed into the side-netting.

Rantie completed the scoring with five minutes left on the clock, the striker lashing a penalty into the top-left corner after Pugh had been carelessly chopped down by Fred in the box.
