MACIEJ Janowski hit straight back from his Cardiff disappointment to lift his first Polish Championship little more than 24 hours later.

The Poole Pirates skipper had no time to dwell on his three-point haul in the British Grand Prix, racing out of the Millennium Stadium to catch a flight to Gorzow in his native Poland to make the event.

And the mad dash proved worthwhile as Janowski pouched five straight second places to land a place in the semi-final where he battled back to beat familiar names Grzegorz Zengota and Krzysztof Kasprzak.

In the final, the 23-year-old, a triple under-21 champion in his homeland, battled back to trump Bartosz Zmarzlik, Thomas Gapinski and Janusz Kolodziej and claim the crown.

Pirates promoter Matt Ford told the Daily Echo: “We are very proud of him to come through a star-studded field in the way he did.

"To win against the home riders, in particular Bartosz Zmarzlik who was favourite and world number two Krzysztof Kasprzak was a great achievement .

“With Chris Holder doing so well at Cardiff, it was a great weekend for Pirates fans and we will give them both a great welcome when we return to action for the first time in three weeks against Lakeside on Wednesday.”
