EDDIE Howe has been named League Managers’ Association manager of the year - making him only the second manager since 1992 to do so while working outside the Premier League.

Previous winners include Sir Alex Ferguson, Arsene Wenger, Brendan Rodgers and Roy Hodgson.

At the organisation’s annual awards dinner last night Howe was also named Championship Manager of the Year.

"I can't believe it. I'm so surprised and so grateful," he told the club's official website. "You need good people around you so I'm grateful to my staff.

"A lot had come with us on our journey from the lower leagues and we managed to get there. It's more special because it is a club where I've spent most of my career."

Howe was in attendance to collect the accolades as managers from all four divisions gathered for the prestigious event at Old Billingsgate in London.

He received his award from Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers who was named LMA manager of the year last season.

Howe, 37, piloted Cherries into the Premier League for their first time in their history, the club’s third promotion in five years under him.

Cherries clinched the Championship title and sealed their place in the top flight following a dramatic final day when they pipped Watford to the trophy.

Howe was named Football League manager of the decade at the 2015 Football League awards ceremony in April.

Former Cherries star Steve Cotterill was named LMA manager of the year in League One after guiding Bristol City to the title, while Jose Mourinho (Chelsea) and Gareth Ainsworth (Wycombe) won the Premier League and League Two awards, respectively.
