MACIEJ Janowski is set to miss Pirates' trip to Belle Vue in the Elite League tomorrow.

The Pole had hoped to return from a knee injury but he aggravated the problem in the Finnish Grand Prix on Saturday.

Although he raced for Polish club Wroclaw today, Janowski will not return at Kirkmanshulme Lane.

Coventry's Chris Harris will guest in his place.

Pirates revealed in a statement that Janowski was concerned that racing on Belle Vue's short track - as opposed to Wroclaw's wide, open circuit - would worsen the problem.

Poole promoter Matt Ford said: "I can understand where Magic is coming from as he was very concerned about the effect a small, tight track would have on his full recovery.

"He has been undergoing intense therapy to try and heal fully the broken bones in his knee and he has been pushing the barriers by riding when still not 100 per cent fit.

"Magic explained the situation and said that the last thing he wants to do is to let his Poole fans down but he feels that if he aggravates it tomorrow then it could put his whole season in jeopardy.

"Last season he was an almost ever present for us and this year he has been sidelined almost as much as he has ridden for us and he told me that in itself hurts his pride a great deal.

"Magic is hoping that a further week of physio and rest will bring the recovery on and he is determined to be fit to resume for our heavy schedule of three matches next week, all of which will be on bigger circuits and will therefore be less of a strain on the knee."
