LYMINGTON Town were left cursing their luck after a 2-0 reverse at Alresford – the club's third straight Sydenhams Wessex League Premier Division defeat.

Craig Bryant and Simon Everett netted for the hosts but Lymo’s Dave Marden was denied by a tight goal-line decision, while Brad Strickland thumped 30-yard effort against the crossbar.

The result saw Town slide to eighth place in the standings after Newport (IOW) thrashed Bournemouth Poppies 5-1 at Victoria Park.

Diane Bassiriki had put fourth-bottom Poppies in front but goals from Tom McInnes (2), Scott Sampson, Darren Powell and George Colson swung the pendulum in Port’s favour.

Bradey Norton was bottom club Fareham’s hat-trick hero, while Ash Tattersall, Callum Laycock, Mark Cotton also netted as the Creeksiders shocked Hamworthy United 6-1 at Cams Alders.

Elsewhere, Chris Marwood’s late penalty gave Totton & Eling’s safety bid a boost with a 2-1 win over Verwood Town.

In Division One, New Milton Town dropped to sixth in the final standings having finished their campaign with a 4-2 defeat at Amesbury.

Rob Teppett and Morgan Turner were on target for the Linnets but goals from Nic Turpin, Cameron Roach and Craig Wheeler (2) ensured fourth spot for the hosts.

Meanwhile, Ringwood Town went down 4-1 at promotion-chasing Cowes Sports.

Peter Richmond-Cole scored for Town but Joe Adams (2), Aleks Przespolewski and an own goal settled matters at Westwood Park.
