STEVE Wignall delivered the goods for Walkford Stores as they edged past FIFA Standards to lift the JC Burnett & Associates-sponsored M A Hart Hayward Cup.

The Division Five promotion chasers, who recovered from the early setback of losing centre-back Dan Hope to a serious knee injury, came from behind to claim the sliveware with midfield dynamo Wignall netting both Walkford goals.

Hope's cup final appearance was horribly short-lived as he suffered a dislocated knee in the very first minute and was stretchered off and taken to hospital.

And Walkford - perhaps unsettled by the incident - fell behind as Adam Morris capitalised on some hesitant defending to supply a clinical finish to a routine ball over the top.

Walkford, however, hit back quickly as Wignall buried a 25-yard free-kick into Simon Johnson's bottom corner after Dave Ball had been chopped down.

Although the Walkford duo of Anthony Baugh and Ball were causing the opposition defence trouble approaching the interval, Standards responded after the break as they went looking for the lead again.

Morris so nearly had the chance to put his side ahead again, only for a fine last-ditch tackle from Neil Jobbins and they were made to pay just a couple of minutes later as Wignall sealed victory with a downward header from a corner just beyond the hour mark.

The Trophyman Man of the Match award was presented by Barry Tanner of Premier Memorabilia to William Nicholls of Walkford Stores FC.

The Bloor Construction Top Goalscorer award for the M A Hart Hayward Cup was won by Craig Frost of Bisterne United FC with six goals.
