BOURNEMOUTH Poppies were subjected to six of the best by title hopefuls Winchester City and passed an unwanted milestone in the process.

Ken Vaughan's men now have the worst defensive record in the Sydenhams Wessex League having shipped 105 league goals by the end of their 6-0 defeat at Victoria Park.

Warren Bentley made it 1-0 to City after seven minutes which was how it stayed until the interval but quick-fire goals from Jamie Thoroughgood and Chris Mason soon put daylight between the teams after the restart.

Dominic Cope made it four after 76 minutes and late efforts from Danilo Cadete and Micky Hubbard capped a miserable day at the office for the hosts.

It is only the second time Poppies, the only club to have played all 29 seasons in the Wessex League's top flight, have conceded a century of league goals since the competition's inception in 1986. They shipped 110 in 40 games and finished third-bottom back in 1999-2000.

Elsewhere, relegation-threatened Christchurch also gave away their 100th league goal of the season but still picked up a useful 1-1 draw at home to Newport (IOW).

Dan Saul put the Hurn Bridge club in front after just two minutes but their lead was cancelled out by Jordan Browne's 66th-minute equaliser for Port.

That result maintained Priory's one-point cushion over second-bottom Fareham, who drew 2-2 with Carl Poore's Verwood Town. Liam Donachy and Tom Whelan netted for the Potters.
