WORLD champion Scott Mitchell made a surprise exit from the Dutch Open with a last-128 defeat to outsider Martijn Soomers.
The Bransgore-based ace, who lifted the BDO world crown at Lakeside earlier this month, lost 3-1 in Assen.
Mitchell had won through ties against Henk van der Horst (3-0), Johan Netten (3-1), Jan Karel (3-0) and Armando Slotboom (3-0).
Alongside Martin Atkins, Mitchell won the men’s pairs yesterday.
