PROMOTER Matt Ford insists there is room for another big gun in the Pirates line-up after recruiting former captain Davey Watt for the 2015 title tilt.

The signing of club asset Watt – who commands a 6.71 average – leaves Pirates with 11.97 points to recruit their final two riders.

However, Ford has refused to rule out bringing in a top-five man on a three-point average which would leave up to 8.97 points for the final team member.

That means the door remains open to the likes of talisman Darcy Ward and Grand Prix star-in-waiting Maciej Janowski, who played crucial roles in this year’s successful Elite League title defence.

The availability of the suspended Ward hinges on the outcome of a disciplinary hearing on January 8 and further signings are unlikely to be announced before that date.

Discussing his future plans, Ford told the Daily Echo: “No one has been ruled out.

“Anyone up to an 8.97 average is still in the equation, which would mean the last member of the team would have a very low average.

“I have a couple of alternatives but I’m just waiting to see what falls into place.”

Ford was delighted to welcome Watt back into the fold and labelled the Aussie the “lucky charm” of Wimborne Road.

He added: “Davey’s career has been a bit stop-start with Pirates since he first came into the team but he has won the title with us four times.

“To me he’s a lucky charm because most of the time he has ridden for the club, we have been successful.

“He has often found himself in a slightly vulnerable position because we’ve been blessed with Chris Holder and Darcy but this year it has worked in our favour and we were able to offer him a place.

“I’ve always had a good relationship with Davey and I’m incredibly pleased to have him back. He lives on the doorstep and is always very professional.

“He is still sponsored locally by a few companies and I believe it is a signing that will be well received in the town.”

Meanwhile, ex-Grand Prix ace Grzegorz Walasek has told a Polish radio station that he could return to Poole for the upcoming campaign.

The 38-year-old, who last rode for Pirates in the Elite League in 2006, represented the club at the inaugural World Speedway League in October.

Walasek told Radio Zachod: "I’m waiting for information from Matt Ford. He suggested that there might be an option for him to call on me."

2015 Pirates team to date: Chris Holder 8.75, Davey Watt 6.71, Dakota North 6.57, Kyle Newman (fast track), Paul Starke (fast track).
