VERWOOD Town gave themselves some festive cheer with a 2-0 victory at local rivals Bournemouth Poppies.

Despite a profitable recent run in the FA Vase, Carl Poore's men had not won in the Sydenhams Wessex Premier for three months.

But they ended that disappointing form with three points at Victoria Park.

Tom Whelan put the visitors in front with 34 minutes on the clock and the same man doubled the lead after the break.

Whelan made no mistake from the spot just before the hour mark and that was how it stayed until the final whistle.

Elsewhere in the division, Hamworthy United were sunk 2-0 at home to Folland Sports. A Ryan Long brace was enough to give the visitors victory.

Lymington Town lost out 2-1 on their trip to Blackfield & Langley. It was Lymo's second league defeat on the spin following their 5-1 loss at home to Poppies.

In Wessex One, Ringwood Town moved to within a point of fourth-placed New Milton Town courtesy of a 3-0 home win over Romsey Town.

A brace from Peter Richmond-Cole and a further effort from Kieran Osman was enough to condemn basement battlers Romsey to defeat.

New Milton's trip to Amesbury Town was postponed.
