BETH Aitchison continued her rewrite of Dorset’s breaststroke records as she completed a clean sweep of the three women’s titles in the South West Short Course Championships at Millfield.

Her success came as her Bournemouth Collegiate School team-mate Alice Tai embarked on her own record spree at the same meet to become the world’s fastest S10 para-swimmer of 2014 in four events.

Aitchison opened her account with gold in the 100m breaststroke, breaking her own county record in both heat and final with times of 1:08.80 and 1:08.67.

She went on to win the 50 and 200m breaststroke in 31.67 and 2:28.53, toppling records set more than 10 years ago by world championship swimmer Alex Savage.

All three times rank her among Britain’s top eight women in 2014.

Aitchison won a fourth gold in the 200m individual medley in 2:15.01, 0.65sec outside Savage’s Dorset record from 2004.

BCS coach Zoe Baker said: “We were exceptionally pleased as our focus meet this season is still two weeks away in Manchester.”

Meanwhile, Paralympic hopeful Tai broke British S10 short-course records in the 50, 100 and 200m backstroke (32.61, 1:07.64 and 2:23.39), 100 and 200m freestyle (1:02.67 and 2:16.51) and 50m butterfly (31.67).

The 15-year-old IPC European medallist equalled her own national record in the 50m freestyle (29.49).

Poole’s Jacob Peters was also in record-breaking form as he won three medals at Millfield.

The 14-year-old set five club records on his way to junior silver in the 200m butterfly and 50m backstroke and junior bronze in the 100m back.

He also made the senior final in the 200m butterfly while the time of 26.92 that earned him fourth place in the junior 50m butterfly makes him the third fastest 14-year-old on the British all-time list.

Team-mate Emily Clarke, 16, also set a club record as she won bronze in the women’s 800m freestyle in 8:56.74.

Luke Roxburgh also won bronze as he continued his progress since moving from Swim Bournemouth earlier in the year.

The 15-year-old came third in the junior 50m breaststroke in 32.50.

Jess Richens, 15, produced Swim Bournemouth’s swim of the weekend as she won the junior silver medal in the women’s 400m individual medley in 5:03.03.

Club-mate Jemma Green, 14, won bronze in the junior 800m freestyle in 9:24.92.

Bournemouth swimmers also recorded 34 PBs and 40 regional qualifying or consideration times.

n Swim Bournemouth’s European bronze medallist Jay Lelliott set his fifth and sixth Dorset records in two weeks as he led off Bath University’s medley relay teams at the British University Short Course Team Championships in Norwich.

His 50 and 100m backstroke times of 25.84 and 54.59 smashed his own records from 2013.
