Cherries' route to the quarter-final

First round - Exeter City 0 Cherries 2

DAN Gosling netted on his full Cherries debut to seal a comfortable victory against the League Two outfit at St James’s Park in August.

Cherries: Flahavan, Smith, Cargill, Ward, Harte, Fraser (Arter, 75), MacDonald, Gosling, Stanislas (Ritchie, 89), Rantie (Wilson, 75), Pitman.

Second round - Cherries 3 Northampton Town 0

Further goals from Brett Pitman and Callum Wilson booked Cherries a place in the third round for the first time since 2004-05.

Cherries: Camp, Smith, Cook, Cargill, Harte, Fraser, Gosling, O’Kane, Pugh (Wilson, 69), Rantie (Ritchie, 69), Pitman (Stanislas, 82).

Third round - Cardiff City 0 Cherries 3

CARDIFF were buried under a first-half goal blitz as Cherries sealed a place in the fourth round with an emphatic display on their first visit to the Cardiff City Stadium.

A clinical finish from Charlie Daniels was sandwiched between two goals from Dan Gosling as the former Newcastle man continued his run of scoring in every round.

Cherries: Boruc, Smith (Francis, 86), Elphick, Cargill, Daniels, Stanislas (Rantie, 87), Gosling, O’Kane, MacDonald (Arter, 75), Pugh, Pitman.

Fourth round - Cherries 2 West Brom 1

CHERRIES earned a place in the quarter-finals for the first time in their history following a dramatic victory over Premier League West Brom.

Eunan O’Kane’s 48th-minute goal appeared to have settled it for the hosts, only for Tommy Elphick’s luckless own goal to restore parity, before Callum Wilson popped up with the winner.

Cherries: Camp, Smith, Elphick, Cargill, Harte, Fraser (Francis, 74), O’Kane, Gosling, Stanislas, Rantie (Wilson, 69), Kermorgant (MacDonald, 88).

Liverpool's route to the quarter-final

Third round - Liverpool 2 Middlesbrough 2 (Liverpool won 14-13 on penalties)

LIVERPOOL won a record-equalling penalty shootout 14-13 to progress to the fourth round at the expense of Middlesbrough at Anfield in September.

Although Simon Mignolet saved Boro’s first spot-kick from Patrick Bamford, Raheem Sterling missed Liverpool’s fifth to send the shootout to sudden death.

And after the next 20 penalties had all been scored, with both goalkeepers on target, Albert Adomah put his wide to send the Reds through.

Adam Reach’s header had taken the tie to extra-time after cancelling out Jordan Rossiter’s opener for Liverpool. Suso netted to restore the hosts’ lead, only for Bamford’s last-minute penalty to force a shootout.

Liverpool: Mignolet, Manquillo, K Toure, Sakho, Enrique, Rossiter (Williams, 79), Lucas, Markovic (Fernandez Saez, 98), Sterling, Lallana, Lambert (Balotelli, 74).

Fourth round - Liverpool 2 Swansea 1

MARIO Balotelli came off the bench to inspire a stirring comeback as Liverpool scored twice in the final four minutes to see off Swansea in the fourth round at Anfield.

The visitors had led when Marvin Emnes hooked across Reds understudy goalkeeper Brad Jones into the far corner before Balotelli guided in Fabio Borini’s cross to level.

Swans defender Federico Fernandez was sent off before centre-back Dejan Lovren headed in a winner.

Liverpool: Jones, Manquillo, K Toure, Lovren, Johnson, Lucas, Henderson, Borini, Coutinho, Markovic (Lallana, 70), Lambert (Balotelli, 79).
