HITMAN Callum Wilson is relieved to be back on the trail to peak condition after making his return from injury in the victory at Wolves.

The big-money summer signing picked up a hamstring problem in the 2-2 draw with Ipswich two-and-a-half weeks ago and had been a doubt for the trip to Molineux.

However, the 11-goal striker was selected to start in the Championship clash and was involved in the build-up that led to Matt Ritchie’s winner.

Wilson, replaced by former Everton man Dan Gosling in the closing minutes, said he was pleased to restore some measure of sharpness to his game in the 2-1 triumph.

He told the Daily Echo: “For any player it’s not nice to be injured so it was good to get back out on the pitch and get 90 minutes under my belt.

“I felt ready beforehand and I told the manager I felt ready. I found out I was playing on Friday and it was great to be back in the starting line-up because I want to play every game.

“You are always going to feel a bit rusty and lacking in match sharpness and I had missed a couple of weeks of training.

“But after the first half I felt like I got rid of the cobwebs and started getting back into it properly.

“I started cramping up at the end of the game but I think I had put a decent shift in, so I can’t complain about that.”

Formerly at Coventry, Wilson was a summer transfer target for Wolves boss Kenny Jackett amongst others but elected to sign for Cherries in July.

He began the season with five goals in his first seven appearances, including a brace in the 4-0 opening-day rout at Huddersfield.

Another purple patch came in October, when the 22-year-old scored six goals in five games and was subsequently named Championship player of the month.

Wilson has not netted since the League Cup win over West Brom on October 28 but nearly ended that run against Wolves, only to be denied by the arm of full-back Matt Doherty on the line – an offence not spotted by referee Mike Jones – before Ritchie converted moments later.
