HOME favourite Anthony Clark was a popular winner as he cruised to victory at the Wimborne 10 last Sunday.

The Wimborne resident, a member of Poole Runners, clocked 55:06 to win by 23 seconds from his nearest rival.

Bournemouth AC’s Jon Sharkey was second with Simon Munro third, one minute and two seconds behind his club-mate.

The event, which started and finished at Pamphill Village Green, was completed by 465 competitors.

Conditions were ideal for running with a moderate temperature supplemented by cloud cover and some rain.

Poole AC duo Andrew Ridley and John Bassinder came out on top in the male vet 50 and male vet 45 sections respectively, while Zoom Tri Club’s Pat Robbins triumphed in the male vet 40 category.

The women’s event was a reasonably tight affair but it was Bournemouth AC’s Nikki Sandell who took glory in 1:05:34.

Fiona Blackmore, who is attached to Bristol-based club Bitton Road Runners, was 18 seconds behind her rival while Poole Runners’ Becky Griffith completed the top three (1:06:33).

Dorchester AC’s Fergus Johnson not only won the junior male race by more than five minutes but also finished an impressive 21st overall thanks to a time of 1:01:53.

Making up the podium places were the unattached Charlie George (1:06:44) and Littledown Harriers athlete Luke Dowsett (1:07:28).
