JACOB Peters is heading for his first British Championships after leading a Poole medal bonanza at the Cardiff International Open Meet.

The 14-year-old set an age group club record of 1:00.21 in the 100m butterfly to book his place at the national event in the Olympic pool in April. He also won six gold medals to top a Poole tally of 36 medals including 15 golds.

He won the 14yrs 100 and 200m butterfly and backstroke, 200m freestyle and 400m medley.

Jasmine Holmes’s six medals included a golden hat-trick in the 16yrs 100, 200 and 800m freestyle.

She also took silver in the 50 and 400m freestyle, setting a club record 4:36.90 in the longer event, and bronze in the 200m medley.

Robbie Hemmings won the 10yrs 50 and 200m backstroke and 50m butterfly as he qualified for his first regional championships.

Lloyd Arnold won gold on his long-course debut, coming first in the 13yrs 100m breaststroke and second in the 50m butterfly.

Allanah Smithson, 14, won gold on all three breaststroke events – gold in the 50m and silver in the 100 and 200m.

Summer Torkington, 13, won the 200m butterfly and came third in the 400m medley.

  • Seagulls’ Isaac Ellis staged a one-boy gold rush to top a momentous weekend for the Christchurch club, who also become West Hants Novice League champions and announced a sponsorship deal.

Nine-year-old Ellis won all 11 of his races at the Aquae Sulis Grand Prix long course meet in Bristol, where Seagulls won a total of 14 gold, three silver and five bronze medals.

Ellis won the 9yrs 50, 200 and 400m freestyle, 50 and 200m backstroke, 50 and 200m butterfly, 50 and 200m breaststroke and the 200 and 400m individual medley.

Ten-year-old Kai Weeks won eight medals from eight races – gold in the 200 and 400m freestyle and 200m individual medley, silver in the 50m breaststroke and 200m backstroke and bronze in the 50m freestyle and backstroke and 200m breaststroke.

Joe Noyce, Miles Ward and Max Weeks completed the Seagulls medal haul. Noyce took silver in the 11-12yrs 200m butterfly and bronze went to Ward in the 11-12yrs 400m freestyle and Weeks in the 100m freestyle.

Seagulls celebrated their sponsorship deal with the Balmer Lawn Motor Group by winning the final round gala in the West Hants Novice League to secure the title.
