ELATED Wimborne boss Steve Cuss saluted match-winner Matt Kemble after he had come off the bench to set up a first qualifying round derby date with Dorchester.

Kemble, on as a 69th-minute replacement for George Webb, settled a see-saw contest when he fired through a crowd of players to net the decider five minutes from time at Cuthbury.

His strike to see off the Division One Central outfit Godalming earned the Magpies £2,500 in prize money and a trip to the Avenue Stadium on November 1.

Earlier, skipper Scott Arnold had struck to cancel out Darren Wheeler’s seventh-minute opener for the visitors, only for Jack Mazzone to level for Godalming after John Blake had given Wimborne the lead.

Cuss told the Daily Echo: “We are delighted with the result and to get through to the next round where we face Dorchester. It is a great draw and should spark some local interest.

“It was a topsy-turvy game. We were on top for large parts but they scored goals at crucial times and made it really difficult for us.

“We are pleased with our squad when everyone is fit. We know we haven’t got a lot of bodies but everyone was fit and available and it made a real difference because sometimes we haven’t had many attacking options off the bench.

“Matt has come on really well this season and is scoring goals. He scored a great goal last week, put a good shift in at Poole in midweek and scored again today so he keeps posing those questions and keeps knocking on the door that he wants to start which is exactly what I want from him.”

Cuss added: “We were delighted to see Scott Arnold on the scoresheet because we have been working on getting our full-backs higher.”

Wimborne travel to Dorchester just a week after Graham Kemp’s men host Bristol Rovers in the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup.

Cuss added: “Graham has gone there and is doing a good job. He will want to win and won’t be concerned whether it is FA Cup, FA Trophy or league.”
